Great news! We had our first NHS hand-in this morning in Southport. Lynn who helped organise the delivery with fellow 38 Degrees members said:

The meeting with John Pugh MP was arranged at very short notice and there was a great turnout of local people who wanted to express their concerns about the NHS Bill. John Pugh was very accommodating and broadly in favour, saying that he would vote for amendments to the Bill but he did not state that he would vote against the Bill in its entirety. However, he was positive about the work being undertaken by 38 Degrees and has asked for a number of people who were present and who have experience of working in the NHS to meet up with him fairly soon to discuss concerns in detail, providing information about the possible negative impact of the proposed changes on local services and provision”

Members supporting the petition included a retired GP, current health worker and retired member of the PCT board. John Pugh MP agreeing to meet is brilliant news for38 Degrees’ campaign to protect the NHS. It’s yet more proof that when tens of thousands of us work together, we can challenge politicians to change their plans.

Lynn and other 38 Degrees members that met today have decided “We would like to form a local 38 Degrees action group to continue with this campaign.”

Two more hand-ins took place in Loughborough and Winchester today with lots more to follow next week, as well as a delivery to Anna Soubry MP in Browtowe (Nottinham) tomorrow.
