MPs don't usually get a lot of phone calls from voters - if they hear from thousands of us today, they will realise just how strongly the public feels about the NHS. That could help tip the balance in the the run up to the crunch vote this week.

You don't have to be an expert. For a start, your MP probably isn't either! There are tips and advice on the key things to say on the next page.

Feedback from recent calls

I called Peter Bone but got answer machine. His office rang back and asked if they could help. I told them my concern and asked which way he would be voting, but she would not commit saying she would talk to him. I was told that he would phone me personally before the vote, but, true to form i have still not had a call from him. Still not to worry , i've voted Tory all my life but not any more. Too many broken promises and too much sucking up to Europe. It's UKIP for me next time.

As usual there was no response - an answerphone. No matter how I contact Hugh Robertson, the response is polite, even friendly but always none commital - he'll 'pass on my email/letter/comments' to the FS or whichever relevant department.

I got through to one of my MP's secretary. I was told that he was in his constituency on constituency matters. I said I was sorry he would not be able to vote today as he had been so helpful in the past in responding to my emails with detailed letters. She suggested I email him my concerns and she remembered my name from earlier contacts. All very civilised and polite.

Well, what can I say! I rang my MP and started chatting to him about everything NHS and he really didn't have a clue what I was on about. It then transpired that he wasn't my MP but a chap helping out, which he failed to inform me of, very annoyingly. I was really disappointed with it all and then we had a power cut and I was cut off - very frustrating! However, what I did get out of him was that 38Degrees was misleading with their information - which I set him straight on right away. He was pretty poor at answering any question at all - very disappointing indeed. SB
