Circus Animal Cruelty: Call your MP

Today’s vote is critical for wild animals suffering in British circuses right now. Every day, lions, tigers and zebras are shunted around the country in trailers, kept alone in small cages, and forced to perform to noisy crowds.

If enough MPs vote today for a ban on animal circus cruelty, life could become much happier for these beautiful wild creatures.

MPs don't usually get a lot of phone calls from voters - if they hear from thousands of us today, they will realise how many of us want to bring an end to this cruel practice. Phoning our MPs today could persuade them to attend this vital vote.

I got through to H of P but there was no answer from his office (Christopher Leslie) so I was diverted to his constitiency in Nottingham. When I asked for him I was told that he was in Parliament and could she help. I said "I'm ringing to ask Mr Leslie to vote for a ban on Circus animal cruelty" and she immediately said "Oh yes, he will be voting for that, no doubt. In fact I think it's happening this afternoon - but whenever it is, he will be voting for a ban" I was really pleased. A RESULT I think!

Phoned Glyn Davies (Cons)Left a message as noone available - stressed maj of public against use of wild animals in circuses and involved v real suffering for animals involved, barbaric and outmoded practise. Asked him to call me back.

I phoned my MPs office (Nicola Blackwood) and couldn't speak to her as she was in the Chamber for another vote, but made my views clear in detail to her secretary who said many people had contacted the MP and that she would convey my views to her. I gained the impression that she was going to vote and to support a ban, but no firm information was given. We shall see.

Elfyn, my MP, is unwell and is not in parliament today. I spoke to his Parliamentary Secretary who supports our campaign. He stated that it was a 'no brainer' and should never have been allowed to get to this situation. He pointed out that there are no Welsh Circuses that use wild animals but that visiting circuses might. Let us hope!
